Largess Donation Derby:
The Kingdom and the Barony are in need of donation items to be given as Largess. These items are traditionally given as gifts to other kingdoms, as prizes in both Kingdom and Barony, and as gifts to deserving members of the populace.
So, the challenge to the Kingdoms Artisans is this:
Create 12 items. The items need not be identical, just related in some way. Some items donated at other Derbies in the past include needle books, hats from different (or the same) period(s), dolls, earrings, rings, jewelry sets, candle holders, beads, children’s toys, game sets, spindles, bobbins, sewing kits, pouches…
Here is a link that may give you some ideas:
Each entry must contain 12 items. You may enter more than once, but please make each entry a different type of item.
1. You may enter as a group; just remember that the items should all be related in some way.
Documentation is not necessary, but it needs to be an item useable in the SCA.
2. Item should be handmade.
3. Each item must be tagged in such a way that the tags won’t get separated from the item (no loose cards – tape or string is allowed in this case). Include your name and local group information on your tag.
4. Bring your entry to Fall Coronation on September 17, 2016. Please try to get your entries in by 10:30am. This will give the populace time to view and pick their favourites.
If you wish you may designate your entry/donation as for their incoming Majesties or their Excellencies. Any items not designated with be split 60% for their incoming Majesties and 40% for their Excellencies
Judging and Prizes:
King’s and Queen’s Prizes:
The King and Queen will each select their favourite entries.
The winners will get to select one item from the other entries
Judging will be done by popular vote of tokens placed in a cup provided for this purpose. The winner will be the one with the most tokens.
The winner will receive the choice of one item from the other entrants.
If anyone has anything they wish to donate to largesse (does not have to be a dozen) to their Excellencies or incoming Majesties are welcome to contribute to a collective basket that will also be presented at court. This will not be part of the competition.
Martial Combat Tournament-
1) Atlantian Speed Tourney for warm ups. Single or Double elimination depending upon numbes
2) The Main Tournament – A Huntsman Tournament. Five fighters, selected by Their Majesties for their prowess, will represent animals, each worth points if they are defeated. Each animal happens to also represent each Barony in Ealdormere.
Hare , Skraeling Althing- 1
Ram, Ramshaven – 2
Boar, Ben Dunfirth – 3
Lion, Rising Waters – 4
Bear, Septentria – 5
There will be two lists and the five champions will take turns fighting all comers. If you defeat the animal you earn those points. If the fighting is tough pairs of fighters may team up against the Lion or Bear for 2 points each.
3) Grand Melees
4) Open field if time permitting
If you have any Questions regarding the fighting please contact Baron Richard Larmer at firstname.lastname@example.org
Archery at Coronation:
Yes, there is archery at Coronation! We will be having Royal Rounds and other shoots, but in particular, we will be having a fundraising shoot for the Yeomen of the Wolf. You may remember we got the go-ahead for an expanded Yeomen program to launch in the new year, and we need funds. There is an ongoing raffle for some amazing prizes, and we have this fun shoot this weekend–and you can get involved!
Yeomen of the Wolf Heraldry Shoot
Some of the best archers and throwers of the kingdom have pledged a set amount of funds to this shoot. The way it works is thus: Targets will be set up with the heraldry of everyone who has pledged money. For $1 an arrow, you may shoot at the heraldry of your choice. If you hit the target, the person whose heraldry you shot has to match your donation. We will have an overall prize (a silk banner with your heraldry or design of choice) for the shooter that generates the most funds for the fundraiser (combination of total arrows shot and scoring arrows matched).
It’s still not too late to put your heraldry out there as a target (you do not have to be an archer to do so!) Contact me if you wouldn’t mind being shot full of holes for a good cause!
Coronation Rapier Program
Apologies one and all, it’s been yet another busy, tiring week.
By now we’re all aware of the rain conditions predicted for Coronation. Drizzle and rain will not close the rapier list for those wishing to fight. Please plan for conditions accordingly.
Conditions that will close the list include:
• Instruction by the KEM/KRM
• Instruction by the Event Stewart (autocrate)
• Unsafe/unstable ground conditions as wet ground worn under foot traffic
• Presence of lighting and thunder
Noon (end of morning court) to 1 pm, Inspections, Warm ups. Please have your authorization cards with you.
1pm to 4pm, this list will be open to all challenges between combatants, rapier and or cut and thrust. This will allow cross fighters to participate in rapier and armored combat, proper armor standards judged by the rapier marshal. Combatants are expected to approach the list in mutual agreement of terms of their time in the list (no more than 5 passes please).
